How to Play Online Craps

Craps has a lot of betting options. This can keep things interesting, but it also takes a bit of time to learn. However, the basics of the game are quite straightforward.  Basically, gamblers guess the outcome of a dice roll in a series of betting rounds.

Round 1 – The Come Out

Gamblers have two betting options: Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line Bets.

Pass Line Bet

Place chips on the section of the layout marked Pass Line.

  • Natural: A total of 7 or 11 pays out 1:1
  • Craps or Crapping Out: A roll equal to 2, 3, or 12, automatically means you lost your entire bet
  • Point: a roll equal to 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 means a point has been established and a chip that says “On” is placed next to the corresponding number. The shooter rolls the dice again until rolling the Point (the number of the first roll). If the Point number is rolled you win 1:1, but if a 7 is rolled first, you lose your bet.

Don’t Pass Line Bet

Place chips on the Don’t Pass Line section of the layout.

  • Natural: A total of 7 or 11 automatically means you lost your entire bet
  • Craps or Crapping Out: A roll equal to 2 or 3 pays out 1:1
  • Push: Rolling 12, neither a win or lose
  • Point: a roll equal to 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 means a point has been established and a chip that says “On” is placed next to the corresponding number. The shooter rolls again until the Point (the number of the first roll). If a 7 is rolled first, you win 1:1, but if the Point is rolled, you lose.

Round 2 – Taking Odds

After a point has been established, gamblers can increase their initial bets by taking odds. There are two betting options: Pass Odds or Don’t Pass Odds.

Pass Odds

The bet wins if the shooter rolls a point again before rolling 7. This bet pays at the true odds of 2:1 if 4 or 10 is the point, 3:2 if 5 or 9 is the point, or 6:5 if 6 or 8 is the point.

Don’t Pass Odds

This is a bet that the shooter will roll a 7 before rolling a point. If the shooter rolls a 7 before the point, the odds pay at true odds of 1:2 if 4 or 10 is the point, 2:3 if 5 or 9 is the point, or 5:6 if 6 or 8 is the point.

Craps Bets

Craps has many different betting options so gamblers never get bored of the game. We’ve already mentioned some of the most common online craps bets, but you can also find options like field bets, come bets, proposition bets, place bets, and more. Let’s take a look at some of the most common craps bets.

Field Bet – A bet available during any single dice roll during the game. Gamblers win even money (1:1) if a 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11 are rolled. On most tables, rolling a 2 pays double and 12 pays triple. The player loses if a 5, 6, 7, or 8 are thrown.

Come Bet – This bet is similar to the Pass Line bet except gamblers can place this bet at any time during the game even after the point has been established.

Don’t Come Bet – This bet is like the Don’t Pass Line bet except gamblers can place this bet at any time during the game even a point has been established.

Online Craps Odds

Knowing the odds of each type of bet can increase your chances of winning. You should know the probability of the bet plus the house edge on each bet. In this way, you’ll know better when to raise the stakes. Read more about craps odds  to improve your betting strategy.

Variations of Online Craps

Normally in craps at the casino, four workers run the game. That includes a boxman to manage the chips, a stickman to announce the dolls plus two dealers. Mini-craps is another version which only has two dealers and a single set of bets split by center bets.

With online craps, the computer manages all of this for you providing a streamlined, private game that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. You can find all kinds of craps at UK online casinos to see which ones you prefer.
